Good Parts and Shoulds.

When we free our hands of the unnecessary, His hands can begin to mold us into beings more like Himself.

I have a busy brain, so I love this truth-

I don’t need to think on every concern or be concerned by every thought.

God’s plan is not dependent upon my understanding His blueprints and hammering every nail — I’m not building the house, but I do get to live in it.

To be found cumbered about in much leaves us lost to the good part. (Luke 10)

The Proverb “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,” lends a supportive hand to the truth that organizing and filtering my thoughts starts with loving Christ.

Him. Christ Himself is the good part.

Love of the Lord dismisses the destructive and distracting unnecessary.

And things truly are often better than we think.

There is something redemptive about coming to choose the good parts on our own, and to be confident in our choice.

To relax our grasp on the misconception that the Lord saves - or makes me successful in school, work, self improvement, etc.- only chronologically and comparatively ‘after all we can do’ frees up a hand or two to clasp in prayer.

To hold His in ours.

And as we kneel at His feet, to feel for the hem of His robe to dry our tears of joy.

When we free our hands of the unnecessary, His hands can begin to mold us into beings more like Himself.

As a good friend counseled recently: just because we can, does not mean we should.

That we become so familiar with the ‘good parts’ and the ‘shoulds’ that they bring more peace than pain is my simple prayer today.
